Nickelodeon announced its nominations for the 25th annual <a href="http://www.nick.com/kids-choice-awards/" target="_blank">Kids' Choice Awards</a> on Thursday (February 16), and the list is as diverse as it is star-studded, spanning the worlds of film, music, TV and sports. Nominees include Jessica Alba, Antonio Banderas, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>, Big Time Rush, Jack Black, Ty Burrell, Jim Carrey, Miranda Cosgrove, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a>, Selena Gomez, Victoria Justice, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bruno_mars/artist.jhtml">Bruno Mars</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/373803/personmain.jhtml">Taylor Lautner</a>, Danica Patrick, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a>, Michael Phelps, Daniel Radcliffe, Adam Sandler and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/262629/personmain.jhtml">Kristen Stewart</a>. "Harry Potter" fans will be pleased to hear that their favorite wizards, and the actors who played them, from <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/383853/moviemain.jhtml">"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2"</a> earned the most nominations, with four total, for Favorite Movie, Favorite Book (the "Harry Potter" series), <a href="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/264615/personmain.jhtml">Daniel Radcliffe</a> for Favorite Movie Actor and Emma Watson for Favorite Movie Actress. The surprising second-place vote-getter is "The Smurfs," which nabbed three nominations including Favorite Movie, Sofia Vergara for Favorite Movie Actress and Katy Perry for Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie. Not to worry, "Twilight" fans, your favorite franchise is nominated in two categories: Favorite Book (the "Twilight" series) and Kristen Stewart for Favorite Movie Actress. Other notable nominees include superstars in the music categories: LMFAO, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, who each received two nods and will battle it out for Favorite Group/ Female Singer and Favorite Song. Derek Jeter and Tim Tebow were nominated for Favorite Male Athlete, and Serena and Venus Williams are each up for Favorite Female Athlete. On March 1, kids will be able to cast their votes in 20 total categories across all of Nickelodeon's digital outlets, including Nick.com, the Nick Mobile app and Nickelodeon's Facebook page and Twitter feed. Nick.com fans can vote using a Facebook application that will live on the Nickelodeon Facebook page. Users will be able to vote from a tab on the page and, for the first time ever, the entire voting experience can be embedded directly into Facebook wall posts. Also new this year, fans will be able to vote for their favorite nominees on Twitter through the use of custom hashtags. The 25th Annual Kids' Choice Awards will be hosted by Will Smith and air live on Saturday, March 31, at 8 p.m.

<a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> might not have known how big <a href="/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> would become when he discovered him a few years back, but he was pretty sure he had found something special. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:712878" width="240" height="211"></div> Since Bieber burst on the scene with his My World EP back in 2009, the 17-year-old has grown up with the world watching. He's gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years. Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a <a href="/news/articles/1674509/justin-bieber-paternity-suit-dropped-2.jhtml">paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped</a>. Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: "Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory." Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber's charitable side. His mentor said he "absolutely" knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start. "To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future," <a href="/news/articles/1674628/justin-bieber-new-york-city.jhtml">Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity</a>, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it. Usher — who appears on Bieber's new Christmas album, <a href="/news/articles/1673032/justin-bieber-usher-christmas-song.jhtml">Under the Mistletoe</a> — gives credit to the folks surrounding the teen superstar, including manager Scooter Braun. If you''re a Samsung Epic 4G Touch owner this release will certainly be of interest to you as it includes video calling for your device. Verizon's latest is close to being the perfect slider

After two years and four hardware iterations, the Motorola Droid 4 is the pinnacle of the line that brought Android into the living rooms of America, if not the world. That's it. Plain and simple. If you're looking for an Android phone with a sliding keyboard, there is none better, insofar as the keyboard goes.

The Droid 4 isn't a radical departure from its predecessors. You've got a keyboard, and you've got a screen, though both have undergone further tweaking that keep it in the style of other current Motorola smartphones like the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX.

But that's not to say the Droid 4 is the perfect smartphone. Oh, we're going to sing its praises, to be sure. But it's also got some quirks that leave us scratching our head.

An excellent physical keyboard, good size and heft in the hand. Motorola's software continues to have excellent customizations.	Yet another phone awaiting an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The 4-inch display leaves a lot to be desired. Battery is not removable.

This is the best iteration yet in the original Droid line. But for as good is the keyboard is, the display is that bad. And launching with an aging version of Android -- even one that's perfectly functional -- is starting to wear on our sensibilities.

VMware adds Mozy to its cloud and virtualization empire

Mozy is one of the most popular cloud backup services around, with more than one million users storing around 70 petabytes of data. Its popularity apparently put it on the acquisition radar of VMware -- which has now made Mozy part of its virtualization empire.

VMware's official blog post makes it clear that the company wasn't so much interested in Mozy as a consumer offering. Rather, it's the inner workings of Mozy which piqued VMware's curiosity. CTO Steve Herrod says, "Over the past 5 years, Mozy has built one of the best examples of a globally distributed, large-scale cloud offering." He adds that the move will allow VMware to "further ramp our own cloud-related learning and accelerate new IP, scale, and capabilities" of its existing offerings.

Existing Mozy customers don't need to worry, of course. VMware has pledged to continue running Mozy's service without interruption.

Acer was hoping for the gloom to lift after two bad quarters, but it can hardly call its latest financials stellar. It scraped a slender $2.4 million profit in the quarter, which wasn't enough to prevent the company posting an overall annual loss of $212 million. It blamed one off charges and operational and strategic adjustments (though no mention of the impending war with Lenovo over Gianfranco Lanci) for the bad year. The terse release (after the break) claims the business is becoming "more healthy and stable," which is a good way to paint a quarter-on-quarter drop of 98.4 percent turnover.

On her 'loud' personality: ?I am quite loud and bolshie,? she says (British slang for unruly and clamorous). ?I?m a big personality. I walk into a room, big and tall and loud.? Indeed. There is no doubt when Adele is in the building. The rule of thumb for protecting one?s vocal cords, she tells me, is: If people are more than an arm?s length away, you shouldn?t talk to them. ?But I am like, Wah! Wah! Wah!,? she says, laughing. ?It?s really bad.?

On giving up drinking last May: ?Don?t like drinking anymore. I think I got it out of my system. D?yaknowhaImean??

On her vocal troubles: ?I?ve been singing properly every day since I was about fifteen or sixteen and I have never had any problems with my voice, ever. I?ve had a sore throat here and there, had a cold and sung through it, but that day it just went while I was onstage in Paris during a radio show. It was literally like someone had pulled a curtain over it.? She flew to London the next morning to see her doctor and was diagnosed with acute laryngitis. After a couple weeks? rest, she continued her European tour, came to America, and then her voice went again in May. ?That was a hemorrhage... a burst blood vessel on my vocal cord. That healed, I did a tour, and then it happened again at my best friend?s wedding on October 1.?

On getting support through her surgery from other artists: ?John Mayer had it done at the same time as I did and he really helped me be chilled out about it. Roger Daltrey?s had loads of stuff done; Steven Tyler reached out; Elton John. Lots of artists have had problems with their voices, but you don?t know about it. And they are still singing incredibly well in their 50s and 60s.?

Cueboy Quest is an adorable 8-bit style physics game

Yes, that's right, I said adorable. Because Cueboy Quest really is!

You play an 8-bit cowboy whose goal on each level is to get to the door (and thus to the next level), but the door is often locked. To get it to open, you must shoot at one or more targets, and those targets aren't always in your line of sight. For example, on one level the the target is a balloon which is stuck all the way at the other end of the screen. You must first nudge it free, and then watch it float up and try to shoot it before it floats clear off the screen. Your bullets are chunky pixels that have some weight - the have arcing trajectories, so you don't always hit exactly where you aim.

There's another level where you must jump on the balloon as it floats up, use it as a platform to get to the other end of the screen, and then turn to shoot it very quickly before it flies away. Each level is very short, and most of them are quite easy. And not only are the graphics 8-bit blocky, but they're large too. Simply beautiful!

The music industry has been stuck in a rut for nearly a decade. But every once in a while, it still manages to produce one of those unstoppable hit albums that give everyone that good old feeling. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:604336" width="240" height="211"></div> This year's model is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>'s 21, which not only sold more copies than any other album in the U.S. in 2011 (more than 5.6 million to date), but which has also moved the most units of any artist since 2004. According to a <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/12/27/us-adele-idUSTRE7BQ10V20111227" target="_blank">Reuters report</a>, those gaudy figures (which top 15 million worldwide) make the British songbird the first artist to cross the 5 million mark in one year since Usher did it with his fourth studio album, Confessions, which sold 7.9 million units more than seven years ago. And to think she did it by releasing just two mega singles, <a href="/news/articles/1675976/adele-rolling-in-the-deep-best-song-2011.jhtml">"Rolling in the Deep"</a> and "Someone Like You," and barely touring North America due to <a href="/news/articles/1674453/adele-throat-surgery-recovery.jhtml">recurring vocal issues.</a>  There have been other big hits along the way to Adele's mark, including Eminem selling more than 3.4 million copies of his comeback Recovery album last year and Taylor Swift taking the honors in 2009 with Fearless, which sold 3.2 million copies. But none have come as close to Usher's mark in the interim. There doesn't seem to be any chance Adele will be surpassed by the end of the year: The closest contenders are Lady Gaga's Born This Way (2.08 million) and Michael Bublé's Christmas (2.4 million). The other good news is that overall music sales are expected to be up slightly (3 percent) by the end of this year, marking the first time that's happened since 2004.

Michael Bay To Direct 'Transformers 4,' Producer Confirms

Since late last year, rumors began firing off about a potential "Transformers" sequel or sequels, and they ran the gamut. Paramount might film two sequels back to back. Michael Bay might return for both. Jason Statham may be the new star. Rumors came and went, but perhaps the biggest question lingered: Will Bay return to direct?

The master of the big-budget explosion, Bay's highly stylized eye for action lent the trilogy its signature look and breakneck pace. With potential sequels looming, no word had been given on whether Bay would return for any follow-ups.

But at Toy Fair 2012, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed to MTV News that Bay would, indeed, return for a fourth "Transformers" film. "Michael's going to direct, and it'll be in the summer of 2014. We'll be releasing then," di Bonaventura said.

Di Bonaventura said that the director is eager to get back to the franchise he started. "He's a cool customer. He's excited," he said. "I think the challenge there is that we are really going to do a reboot and what that's going to be, we don't even know yet." Bay will reportedly film the next "Transformers" after making "Pain and Gain," which has Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg circling major roles.

As for the Jason Statham rumors, di Bonaventura said that it is way too early in the process to decide something like casting. "No, it's so silly. We have to get a story first," he said. "You can't pick characters if you don't have a story."

With the series heading in the direction of a reboot, many new questions form about which characters and storylines will return. Di Bonaventura insisted that the fourth film will not be a hard reboot, but an "evolution."

"Again, it's a hybrid because it's a funny thing. I'm not involved with 'Spider-Man,' but what I perceive 'Spider-Man' to be is just a redoing of the whole thing. It's not. It's an evolution. There's still continuity that's going on, yet there will be a lot of new cast," he said. "Whether there's anybody from the first cast, we don't even know yet. The trust is it's going to be a whole new story. The characters that would certainly come along are Optimus and Bumblebee, I'm sure."

Just days before the Grammy Awards are handed out here in the States, the nominees for the Canadian version of the music awards show, the Juno Awards, were announced on Tuesday (February 7) with <a href="/music/artist/drake/artist.jhtml">Drake</a>, <a href="/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> and Michael Bublé all landing nods. Some of Canada's biggest acts will face off in the Album of The Year category: Avril Lavigne for Goodbye Lullabye, Drake for Take Care, Justin Bieber for his Christmas-themed Under the Mistletoe, Michael Bublé for his holiday album Christmas and rockers Nickelback for Here and Now. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:720494" width="240" height="211"></div> Bieber scored his second nomination in the Fan Choice Award category along with Arcade Fire, Lavigne, City and Colour, deadmau5, Drake, Ginette Reno, Hedley, Bublé and Nickelback. You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <a href="/music/artist/yeah_yeah_yeahs/artist.jhtml">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</a> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song." <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div> Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album. The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. "We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. The result is a sprawling three-hour opus." There is a whole generation of modern divas who grew up worshipping at the altar of Whitney Houston. Everyone from Mariah Carey to Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna and Beyoncé owes a huge debt to the legendary singer, who died at age 48 on Saturday on the eve of the 54th annual Grammy Awards.

But on an evening when many artists stopped to pay homage to the 1980s diva, whose gifts knew no bounds before her personal problems eroded a once-untouchable talent, it was Jennifer Hudson who reminded the gathered music-industry elite about how much had been lost.

Like Houston, Hudson came up as a church kid, singing at Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist on Chicago's rough South Side at age 7 before embarking on a path that would take her to the top of the charts and earn her an Oscar for her breakout first film role in "Dreamgirls." (That part came nearly 15 years after Houston won accolades in her big-screen debut in "The Bodyguard.") And, like Houston, Hudson was signed by Clive Davis, the legendary music man credited with making Whitney's career; the two women were labelmates on his J Records imprint. As he tirelessly was for Houston — even in her declining years — Davis has been an outspoken and steady champion of Hudson ever since.

Much of Houston's pain and drama came from a sometimes destructive relationship with her ex-husband, singer Bobby Brown, and a devastating spiral of drug and alcohol addiction that would eventually rob her of her precious voice, and, according to reports, her life. Hudson's public pain had its sources elsewhere, from the rejection of "American Idol" to struggles with weight and, most tragically, the horrific 2008 murders of her mother, brother and nephew.

Sunday night's last-minute request to sing a tribute to Houston was likely a mixed blessing for Hudson: an honor, a burden and a calling.

But when she took the stage alone in a spotlight to sing the first a cappella notes of Houston's signature show-stopper, a remake of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" from the "Bodyguard" soundtrack, there was no mistaking the weight of the moment.

Poised and, most importantly, clearly determined to make the moment about Houston and not herself, Hudson brought a gospel edge to the soaring ballad, infusing it with emotion and reverence. Her slight inhale before the dip into the first chorus looked as much about Hudson catching her breath as it did about her collecting her strength to push through and make Whitney proud. Raising her hands and eyes to the ceiling, then clenching them shut to hit the big note near the end, Hudson genuinely appeared on the verge of tears as she nailed a performance for the ages. The swooping, operatic sustained highs were not about showing off her prowess, but felt like the best kind of eulogy Jennifer could offer to her idol: an homage to an effortless vocal power we may never hear the likes of again.

Dion Summers, the vice president of music programming at Sirius/XM satellite radio (which launched a Houston tribute channel over the weekend), said the choice of Hudson was spot-on. "It kind of reminded me of the time after Michael Jackson died when Chris Brown opened up the BET awards," Summers said. "That was the heir apparent. Everyone's emotions were still raw and in both situations the artist had just died and it felt right. ... I'm sure the Grammy producers felt that."

Aside from the Davis and church connections, Summers said Hudson's addition of gospel runs and even the way she styled her hair was a clear attempt to channel Houston's essence. "She opened up from [a dark stage] just like Whitney did in 1994 [at the Grammys] with 'I Will Always Love You,' and if you noticed, [Hudson] gave a very restrained, graceful performance. We know Jennifer to have big pipes and she didn't try to out-Whitney Whitney. I thought it was very classy. I think Jennifer walked that balance between tribute and taking the song over and she was just right in the pocket."

Google TV YouTube app update coming, faster and with new features

The official YouTube app for Google TV will be seeing a big update over the next few days, says Google TV product manager Jurek Foryciarz . The update will make the app work "faster with smoother navigation", and also bring a handful of new features designed to make the app work better with the GTV remote. While everyone with the slightly anemic first-generation device hardware will certainly appreciate faster and smoother, the new features look really nice as well.

The new "Discover" tab will allow you to browse YouTube channels by category, making new channels and content easier to find and preview. That's half the fun of YouTube, especially on your big screen. The channel pages themselves have been overhauled as well, making it easier to navigate through playlists and subscribe right from the channel page. Specific functions for the Google TV remote have been added that allow scrolling through things like related videos, and the information screen where you can thumbs up (or down) a video and comment without leaving the page. As a user who watches a lot of YouTube, this all looks really great.

Could this be part of the "big announcements" that coming up for Google TV? That's a possibility, even though we all want to hear hardware news the software is just as important. Maybe even more so when we're talking a set-top box, where entertainment and content is the focus. We've been hearing about a big push for Google TV from the folks in Mountain View for about a year now, and it looks like they may be starting. Bring it, I say. Whitney Houston's Death: Details Emerge

According to reports, Houston may have drowned in her Beverly Hills hotel bathtub.

The day after pop super diva Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room, details are beginning to emerge about what may have contributed to her sudden death.

While the cause of death remains a mystery, police tell People that "at this time, there's no obvious evidence of foul play."

Beverly Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Rosen said Saturday "someone in her entourage found her unresponsive in her room. ... Our detectives are still in the room, and her body is still here as well. I can confirm that Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. this afternoon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. We received a call at 3:43 p.m. from hotel security and Beverly Hills Fire, and police responded minutes later."

Police note that an investigation is ongoing. TMZ reports that while no illegal drugs were in her hotel room, prescription drugs were found. Sources add that she may have drowned in the bathtub, where her body was reportedly discovered.

Houston's body had been removed from the tub when authorities arrived, so an autopsy will have to be performed to determine the cause of her death. TMZ added that she had reportedly been taking Xanax at the time. Houston had been spotted drinking the night before at a pre-Grammy party, and in combination with the prescription drug, it could have led to her falling asleep in the tub and drowning.

Bobbi Kristina, Houston's daughter with ex-husband Bobby Brown, was reportedly on the hotel premises when Houston died. According to TMZ, Bobbi got into an argument with police when she was denied access to see her mother's body. Houston's cousin, Dionne Warwick, also showed up, according to reports, and was also not allowed to see the superstar's body.

Houston died at the age of 48 in Los Angeles. Her body was found at the Beverly Hilton, hours before her mentor Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy bash. She was expected to attend the annual fete. The party went on as planned Saturday night, where Davis, Diddy, Alicia Keys and Tony Bennett all paid tribute to the fallen star.

On Sunday night (February 12), fellow Davis protégé Jennifer Hudson and Houston's longtime friend Chaka Khan are expected to lead a tribute to the late icon during the 2012 Grammy Awards.

Grammy executive producer, Ken Ehrlich, said in a statement, "It's too fresh in everyone's memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn't recognize Whitney's remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years."

Cloud Girlfriend will use a swarm of females to satisfy men

Cloud Girlfriend, despite what it sounds like, doesn't really have anything to do with cloud computing. Rather, it uses a cloud of women to pose as your girlfriend on Facebook, or your favorite social network of choice. The service is scheduled to launch 'soon,' and there's no indication of how much it will cost.

With the tagline 'The easiest way to get a girlfriend is to already have one,' Cloud Girlfriend promises to be a very interesting startup indeed. The brains of the operation, David Fuhriman, speaking to CNET, says it's all about fulfilling Maslow's hierarchy of needs. "CloudGirlfriend.com can fulfill Maslow's higher needs, even though the users know that the interaction is virtual. They will interact with a real person and see real profile images of the girl with whom they interact. This interaction can build confidence and esteem as well as provide real training experiences in navigating a friendship and a relationship."

Our concern, of course, is that it's very nearly April 1. We're also worried by the fact that Fuhriman has a name that sounds ominously like a social subculture that we've grown strangely attracted to here in the Download Squad bunker.

Finally, just stop and think about it for a second. Because your cloud girlfriend will be entirely virtual, she could be based anywhere. She could be underage -- or overage -- or she might be someone who you know in real life. She could even be a relative of yours, and you'd never know.

Let's not forget this is the Internet we're talking about, folks. Worst case scenario, she could turn out to be a hairy, male truck driver from Texas. Such as... your dad, perhaps?

TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available

TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related -- from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination.

Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that's a neat feature, it's also a bit of a downer -- because, really, it's about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn't already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn't work with WP7 at the moment).

While it's nice to see Windows Phone 7 users getting some big-name apps, it'd be even nicer if we saw some packing a bit more swagger.

Still, TripAdvisor for WP7 might just be worth installing on your device if you're frequently on the go -- at least until a better browser arrives with the Mango update.

Utilizing her musical talents to kick off the show, Zooey Deschanel offered up a sweet song to begin her hosting efforts on yesterday's (February 11) episode of "Saturday Night Live".

The "New Girl" actress' monologue saw her greet the studio audience and viewers at home with a ditty about the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday - with the lyrics based upon the unfortunate situation in which only one half of a couple remembers the lovers' holiday is taking place.

During the course of the show, a favorite clip was a Weekend Update sketch titled "Get In The Cage" in which Nicolas Cage is joined by his clone, Nicolas Cage to talk about the industry and future projects.

The new mom made a huge splash just walking into the show, her first public appearance since the birth of <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">Blue Ivy Carter</a>  last month. <div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:731725" width="240" height="211"></div> Wearing a form-fitting Alice by Temperley dress, 4-inch Christian Louboutin heels and holding a gold Alexander McQueen clutch, the singer looked in fighting form for her big night out. According to the <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/beyonce-steps-giving-birth-jay-z-benefit-carnegie-hall-article-1.1018364" target="_blank">New York Daily News,</a> at an afterparty at Jay's 40/40 club, she reportedly said, "It was amazing," when asked about Jigga's show. It was the capper to a historic night for Jay, who filled the Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall for the first of two benefit concerts for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation and the United Way to raise money for gifted high school students who need financial assistance to attend college. Backed by a full orchestra that included Roots drummer ?uestlove and Young Guru playing DJ, Hov took the stage just before 9 p.m. in a white tux jacket and holding a bottle of champagne. Words With Friends for Android updated, promises "smoother game experience"

As several of you noted in the comments to our post asking for cross-platform iOS/Android games, Words With Friends for Android does not provide the smoothest gaming experience... and that's being rather charitable.

You might be happy to hear that a couple of days ago Zynga released an update which promises to solve many of the Android-specific issues, such as notifications not popping up.

Sadly, installing the update is not a smooth experience; you have to manually uninstall the previous version, and then go to the Android Market and install it. What's nice is that it doesn't lose your saved games - this screenshot shows a game I've started before the update and continued after updating.

The tablet and smartphone industry appears to be trying to sue itself out of existence, and Apple's filing today against Motorola Mobility in the US District Court of Southern California is just latest in a long line of legal ploys likely to inspire you to slam your head against a wall. The purveyors of all things "i" has accused Moto of breaching a licensing contract with Qualcomm when Moto hit Apple with four patent claims in Germany. That license covers wireless technology Qualcomm uses in its MDM6610 chip, and also purportedly covers Qualcomm's customers who purchase and use said chips. Naturally, that bit of silicon is a component in the iPhone 4S, so Apple argues that it's safe under the terms of the contract. Furthermore, Cupertino claims Motorola is barred from suing under the doctrine of exhaustion -- which is a legal defense that once a patented item is sold (i.e. when Moto licensed its technology to Qualcomm), the patentee's control over that item is exhausted and it can't sue anyone else for infringement.

So, this new suit filed in San Diego seeks to prevent Motorola from enforcing its claims in Deutschland. It also aims to keep Motorola from suing Apple for its use of Qualcomm components incorporating licensed Moto technology anywhere else. Confused?
